ELLSWORTH BREAKS THE TAXPAYER PROTECTION PLEDGE
On the campaign trail, Candidate Ellsworth signed the Americans for Tax Reform Taxpayer Protection Pledge, promising to oppose any and all efforts to increase taxes.
Once elected, Ellsworth BROKE HIS TAX PLEDGE, showing a commitment to raising taxes immediately after being sworn-in.
Ellsworth's first vote elected Pelosi Speaker and his second vote made it easier to impose massive tax hikes on the American people. (House Roll Call 4)
Also within the first 15 days of Democrat-control of Congress, he sided with his liberal leadership, voting for a $6.5 billion tax hike - the first tax increase in 13 years. (House Roll Call 40)
As the Wall Street Journal put it: "This is a lengthy, complicated bill, but the central idea is simple: Raise taxes..." (1/16/07)

"Members ought to be willing to put their names beside the earmarks they request, said Ellsworth. The public needs to see where their money is going and trust that it is being spent wisely."

Ellsworth voted to protect hundreds of millions of dollars in hidden earmarks, including a Tropical Rain Forest in Iowa. (House Roll Call 71)Ellsworth
voted to allow up to 54 secret earmarks to be airdropped into appropriations
bills at the last minute, adding a half a trillion dollars in increased
spending to these already massive bills (House Roll Call 1044, 1061 and 1098).
Ellsworth and the Democrat leaders of the so-called, self-proclaimed "most open Congress in history," have closed the door on any possibility for amendments or debate on a series of appropriations bills. As a result, 54 never before seen earmarks were stealthily placed into various appropriations bills at the expense of important funding for our troops, our veterans and hard working Americans.
Ellsworth voted to allow hidden earmarks to be tucked into the Democrats' SCHIP bill, despite his promise to be part of the "most open Congress in history." (House Roll Call 902)

Ellsworth and his Democrat leaders have failed to reveal their
secret "commonsense plan to help bring down skyrocketing gas prices." In the
face of a slowing economy and soaring cost of living, Ellsworth and his fellow
Democrats rejected a call to force Speaker Pelosi to tell the American people
how she plans to relieve their pain at the pump (House Roll Call 211).
Ellsworth voted against a bill that would have encouraged biofuels research and development of all alternative fuels, instead of a select few. This proposal would have been very beneficial to local economies, especially in coal-producing communities. (House Roll Call 91)
Ellsworth
voted in lock-step with his Washington
leaders for the Democrats' "No Energy" bill, killing jobs and increasing
dependence on foreign energy. (House Roll Call 1140)
Ellsworth voted against a measure which would have required that
all energy bills be certified to prevent higher energy prices for
consumers. Ellsworth also voted to allow for a
reduction of domestic energy supplies and an increase in foreign energy dependence. (House Roll Call 578)

Ellsworth voted against the interests of America's small businesses and their ability to create jobs and provide affordable health care to their workers. (House Roll Call 17)
Ellsworth cast a vote which would not only cripple the American mining industry, but also send American jobs overseas, increase America's dependence on foreign resources and undoubtedly endanger America's economic and national security. (House Roll Call 1032)
